Hoima
Hoima city leadership has revealed plans to repair and replace stolen street lights and also procure new lights in a bid to boost security and enhance the lighting system as the city experiences significant growth.
The issue of streets took a centre stage during a City council sitting held on Friday at HB Hotels as councilors and other technical leaders led by the city clerk Godfrey Kisekka deliberated on finding solutions to the inadequate light in the city which has been affected by the increased cases of theft and vandalism.
Nalumaga Slyvia Balyesiima, the leader of government business in the council revealed they are currently in search of a contract who is set to replace street lights along Old Tooro road and Hoima Main Street adding that they will install the new lights in phases using the local revenue. Patrick Mugabi and Joshua Byenkya the Hoima City workers’ councilor and Hoima west male councilor, respectively tasked the locals to own up these lights by safeguarding them from acts of theft which has always posed to be a challenge to the leadership to tame.
Godfrey B Kisseka, the City Clerk has asked the leaders to use all possible spaces to sensitize the city dwellers on owning up and protecting these lights to ensure the city gets and maintains enough lights to match the standard of a real City.
Brian Kaboyo the city mayor reveals that they will also install brand new 130 lights that will be added in areas where there are not enough lights and tasked the locals to put mechanisms in place to protect them.
