The Muslim holy month of Ramadan has officially begun today, following the sighting of the crescent moon, Dr. Ziyad Swalleh Lubanga, the Director of Sharia at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), announced.
Dr. Lubanga confirmed that the moon marking the start of the Islamic fasting month was sighted on Saturday Evening.
Consequently, Muslims across Uganda begins their month-long fast, observing one of the five pillars of Islam from dawn to dusk.
Taraweeh prayers, special nightly prayers performed during Ramadan, will also commence on Friday evening in mosques, allowing the faithful to spiritually prepare for the sacred period.
Meanwhile the Kibaale Muslim district Kadhi, Sheikh Muhammed Isingoma has urged Muslims to adequately prepare for the holy month of Ramadhan (fasting) that begins today.
According to Sheik Isingoma, Ramadhan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and a significant month for Muslims around the world, marked by hope and spiritual growth.
Sheik Isingoma also asked Muslims to use the fasting period to promote cooperation, unity and development. As the political season approaches, Sheik Isingoma condemns politics of divisionism and identity, asking residents to promote peace in the upcoming fragile political environment
