The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced that Karuma Bridge will be closed to all traffic from 10th March to 31st March, to facilitate the installation of expansion joints.
The planned maintenance aims to ensure long-term structural stability and improve traffic flow on the Kampala–Gulu Highway.
According to the statement issued by the ministry, Following last year’s closure for urgent repairs, Karuma Bridge was partially reopened on 20th December last year for only light vehicles to ease travel during the festive season.
The statement further noted that similar maintenance will be conducted on Ayago Bridge (Karuma–Olwiyo road), as its expansion joints have been weakened due to fatigue.
In his statement, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, Minister of Works and Transport, assures the public that the temporary closure is necessary for long-term safety and infrastructure improvement.
